MASE has now made it possible to view actual installed septic systems at the new MASE/MRWA Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Training Center. The Maine Rural Water Association (MRWA), an organization that helps rural municipalities find solutions for water supplies and wastewater disposal, has agreed to allow several scaled down septic systems to be installed on its property at 254 Alexander Reed Road in Richmond. A MASE construction crew, headed by Doug Coombs and Brent Lawson of the Maine Division of Environmental Health, worked in intense summer heat for two days and constructed five different types of disposal areas. The Center is scheduled to hold training sessions in mid-October, 2010 for site evaluators, plumbing inspectors and code officers, and installers. The training session will include the opportunity to observe in-place installations of the most common types of systems, evaluate test pits, and practice with slope and fill extension calculations. Training films showing installation techniques used to construct the systems will also be shown. The cost? A mere $55, what a deal!
