To MAPSS Members and others:

On Wednesday September 6, 2017 from 9 am to 2 pm (rain or shine) MAPSS will be conducting a workshop at Over The Hill Farm in Searsmont. This workshop will be a very important training session for soil scientists to learn a new method of identifying hydrologic soil groups and conditions conducive to good stormwater buffers. We will have expert soil descriptions for soil profiles and lab analysis for several key soil horizons. We will also have base maps with one foot LIDAR contours and aerial photos to assist in interpreting conditions. In addition, we will examine depths of organic horizons, surface roughness and vegetative cover characteristics of hypothetical stormwater buffers.

Although this workshop is oriented towards soils scientists, it will be useful to engineers, state regulators, site evaluators, and code officers as well. Attendees should be prepared for field conditions and bring their Munsell color charts and other reference materials related to identifying and describing soil profiles. Lunch will not be provided but there will be bathroom facilities.

Attached are directions to the workshop, a locus of the property and a registration form. We hope you will join us for some lively discussion and a beautiful view of the Lake Quantabacook.
